The Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs is only just underway, but the unelected officials that make the rules at MLS headquarters on Fifth Avenue already announced the 2022 opening schedule, including the home opener for New York City FC.
New York City FC will start the season on the road at the Los Angeles Galaxy, then will play the Vancouver Whitecaps in Vancouver before heading back to New York to host CF Montréal in the home opener at Yankee Stadium.
Here is the complete 2022 opening schedule:
NYCFC at Los Angeles Galaxy, Sunday, February 27, 5 pm ET
NYCFC at Vancouver Whitecaps, Saturday, March 5, 6 pm ET
NYCFC vs CF Montréal, Sunday, March 12, 2 pm ET
It is the earliest start to a season in the history of MLS. The entire 2022 schedule is being shifted to accommodate the FIFA World Cup Finals, which will be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
NYCFC has never opened the season with a home game at Yankee Stadium. NYCFC’s opening day record is two wins, two draws, and three losses.
