Finally. New York City FC have signed someone!
Earlier today, NYCFC have announced the signing of Malte Amundsen from Danish club Vejle Boldklub. The left back is the first official signing for the Bronx Blues in 2021.
Amundsen — who just turned 23 — was purchased from Vejle for a reported fee of about $1.6 million and is seen as a replacement for left back Ronald Matarrita who was transferred to FC Cincinnati last month.
NYCFC manager Ronny Deila sung Amundsen’s praises in the club’s official press release, saying: “Malte is the type of left back we were looking for in this transfer window. He is a very good 1 v 1 defender and likes to get stuck into tackles. His work rate is incredible, and he will give everything he has for all 90 minutes. Modern full backs must be able to attack and Malte likes to get forward and provide service into the box. We’re looking forward to getting him into preseason with us. I know he’ll fight every day to make this team and himself better.”
Like his fullback companion Anton Tinnerholm, Amundsen is said to be good on both the defensive and offensive sides of the ball. And with a 5”10’ frame, the young Dane should also be a viable aerial threat on set pieces and while defending.
