It’s been over a month since New York City FC confirmed the addition of Brazilian winger Thiago Andrade to their squad. Unfortunately, in a world still dealing with COVID-19, the process of obtaining international work visas has slowed dramatically. NYCFC went through a similar conundrum with Danish left back Malte Amundsen this year where it took him two months after his signing was made official to obtain the proper paperwork to join the team.
Fortunately. according to manager Ronny Deila, Andrade’s visa issues have been sorted and he is expected to join up with the club in the next few days.
Thiago has his visa and should be on a plane to #NYCFC in a day or two according to Ronny Deila.— Michael Allen (@msa_allen) May 20, 2021
In a presser on Thursday ahead of NYCFC’s weekend matchup against the Columbus Crew, Deila told the media, “I’ve heard that Thiago has got his visa and can travel now — today, tomorrow, two days from now. So that’s positive.” Deila also clarified that he didn’t know when Talles Magno, City’s newest Designated Player, can be expected to join the team.
To have Thiago in the fold should bode well for NYCFC’s attacking depth, which has been thin this season. Further help will be had when Talles Magno can finally join the club. And if rumors are to be believed, New York City will receive further offensive cover upon the announcement of Santiago Rodriguez.
Exciting times to be an NYCFC fan right now. Expect this team to possibly break out in a big way as these new signings gradually arrive.
