Nobody can deny that New York City FC has done well in the early stage of 2021 MLS season—much better than anyone anticipated. And what they’ve done with a squad that is less than full-strength has been remarkable.
Unfortunately, they may have to do it with even less resources against the Columbus Crew tonight at their makeshift home of Red Bull Arena.
In City’s latest injury report, the club has listed five players as ‘questionable’ for the Crew matchup. They are as follows:
- Anton Tinnerholm - Hamstring
- Maxi Moralez - Quad
- Alfredo Morales - Adductor
- Maxime Chanot - Adductor
- Alexander Callens - Hamstring
Additionally, Héber remains out as does Gedion Zelalem. New signings Talles Magno and Thiago Andrade are also sidelined due to MLS Health & Safety protocols.
While Alfredo Morales has made his way into the periphery of typical City starters, the absences of Tinnerholm, Chanot, Maxi, and Callens—should they be unable to play—are sure to be felt by the team. The center back pairing of Chanot and Callens both had early exits against Toronto FC last weekend due to injury while Tinnerholm was a late scratch having apparently sustained an injury during training.
NYCFC has depth in these areas of need. But depth isn’t always enough if the cohesion isn’t there.
