It’s been about a month and a half since New York City FC announced the signing of winger Thiago Andrade after he was transferred from Brazilian club Bahia on April 10. Since then, Thiago has been unable to join the club physically due to the slow process of obtaining his P1-visa.

That saga finally ended this afternoon.

NYCFC posted pictures of one of their newest additions at the Etihad City Football Academy. And he’s rocking the No. 8!

Andrade is one of two Brazilians the club has signed recently, the other being Vasco da Gama’s Talles Magno who signed a Young Designated Player contract with NYCFC last week — a move that made waves throughout the league.

Combined with City striker Héber — who is still awaiting return from an ACL injury — NYCFC could potentially have a trident of Brazilian forwards in just a few weeks’ time.

With Taty Castellanos and Jesus Medina both boasting impressive early season numbers through their first handful of games, it should be interesting to see exactly where Thiago fits into Ronny Deila’s attacking schemes. Regardless, having more depth in the attack has been a priority for the team in 2021 and Andrade’s arrival should do well in alleviating the attack’s workload while City still awaits the arrival of key pieces.
