FT: NYCFC sneak past Atlanta with a 1-0 win in their second consecutive “home” game at Red Bull Arena.

It wasn’t always the prettiest of affairs, but NYCFC were deserving of the win tonight. Ismael Tajouri-Shradi remains City’s hottest hand as he scored a goal for a third consecutive game.

87’: Alfredo and Malte on, Taty and Tajouri-Shradi off.

82’: City haven’t gone into a defensive shell. I’m pleasantly surprised, but also weary.

69’: GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!! NYCFC pull ahead!

Parks forces the turnover in the midfield. City go on a quick counter and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi finds a gap and delicately guides a shot past Brad Guzan. NYCFC lead 1-0!

59’: Tayvon Gray and Andres Jasson come off for Anton Tinnerholm and Maxi Moralez, respectively.

48’: Keaton Parks is obviously brought down in the box. But for some reason, it’s not going to VAR.

Second half is underway. Can City mount something in the attack?

28’: Save! Sean Johnson. This is getting a little scary.

26’: After a great start from NYCFC where they were creating chances, Atlanta has begun to build momentum. City really need to start working their way back into the offensive. And it starts with the men up top being more clinical with their chances and final balls.

5’: Jesus Medina misses a big chance. Props to Guzan for saving the shot, but Medina has to do better.

For the second straight week, we’re off in New Jersey. NYCFC needs a win this week.

Rosters are out! In a surprise turn of events, Ronny Deila has decided to go with a more youth-based approach this week, probably due to schedule congestion. Tayvon Gray earns his first MLS start at right back while Andres Jasson starts on the left wing. James Sands also starts at the back, but that’s not surprise.

Elsewhere, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi earns a well-deserved start after a stellar last two appearances off the bench. Cacha Acevedo also returns to the lineup after missing the New England game due to red card suspension.

The story: If there’s any time for New York City FC to find their form, it’s tonight. Going up against Atlanta United — who are also on 11 points — the 7th place NYCFC play a second consecutive home game at Red Bull Arena against a club missing a few key pieces, namely Josef Martinez.

City lost a heartbreaker last time against the New England Revolution on Saturday, a 3-2 loss in which the team’s defense severely lacked cohesion and compactness. While he’s not exactly on the hot seat yet, Ronny Deila must soon collect results en masse lest we return to the dog days of 2020 where the Norwegian manager was under a microscope from team supporters. A win against an always formidable Atlanta side could pay dividends in returning NYCFC to the form fans have become accustomed to seeing from them for a majority of the past several years.

This post will update with highlights and information as we receive it.
