Halftime Notes: NYCFC vs. D.C. United

The takeaways from the first half of action

MLS: Atlanta United FC at New York City FC Dennis Schneidler-USA TODAY Sports

New York City FC currently trails D.C. United 1-0 after 45 minutes. Here are some key takeaways:

  • Taty Castellanos must be better! Ever since he signed his new contract, the Argentinian striker hasn’t scored a single goal. You need more from your only healthy natural striker on the roster.
  • What’s going on with Sean Johnson? NYCFC’s goalkeeping captain has been so inconsistent in 2021 after several seasons of reliability. Granted, Maxime Chanot needed to close down better. But for the most part in 2021, strikes on goal have troubled SeanJohn.
  • Expect Malte Amundsen in the second half. NYCFC’s left back seemed to be really laboring his knee towards the end of the half and seemed gassed for large portions of it. It’s likely we won’t see him in the second half.
  • Talles, where art thou!? While it’s good to see Thiago Andrade get some minutes (seriously his pace is crazy), I think I speak for all fans when I say we want to see our new crown jewel in action.
