Halftime Notes: Columbus Crew vs. NYCFC

Our takeaways from the first 45 minutes of action

MLS: New York City FC at CF Montreal Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

New York City FC currently trails Columbus 1-0 at halftime. Here are the main takeaways thus far:

  • Wake up, Taty! For the second straight time during one of these things, we are criticizing Taty Castellanos for his lackluster finishing in front of the net. The Argentinian needs to start putting the ball into the back of the net or you can no longer justify him being in the starting lineup, with or without Héber.
  • It’s All Gudi! Despite the game evolving down the right flank in the later stages, Gudi Thorarinsson was extremely serviceable with his distribution from the left back position early on. Should he be able to get back into the mix, we expect him to deliver something.
  • Barraza has been solid. It’s unlikely Sean Johnson will ever lose his spot at goalkeeper for as long as he’s in New York, but backup Luis Barraza has stepped up valiantly in his absence. Had it not been for a spectacular save from him early on, it could very well be 2-0 for the bad guys right now.
