New York City FC’s narrow 1-0 win over CF Montreal on Wednesday is sure to generate tons of discussion among supporters and pundits. Was it as clean as it could’ve been? Does it do much in restoring the hope of the fanbase? Both of these questions are hard to answer, even with three more points in the bag.
But one thing that is not up for debate is Ismael Tajouri-Shradi re-emerging as City’s resident spark plug when it comes to contributing to the attack. Once thought of as merely a good hand off the bench, Tajouri-Shradi’s performances as a starter have been trending upwards so far in 2021. And on Wednesday, he chipped home the game-winning goal against Montreal and was the ultimate difference in a tight contest. His game winner brings the Libyan forward’s 2021 goalscoring record to 5 on the season, tying his second-best season total from 2019. While he still has a ways to go before he gets to his MLS career high of 11 from his debut 2018 season, all signs point further good performances.
In recognition of his class tally on Wednesday, MLS announced earlier today that Tajouri-Shradi had made the league’s Team of the Week for Week 14.

Congrats on the recognition, Isi! If anyone deserves it, it’s you.
Onwards to Orlando!
