MLS: Inter Miami CF at New York City FC Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

85’: Andres Jasson comes on for Taty. Good brace, kid. Love to see it.

76’: And here comes Talles Magno! He’s on for Maxi.

55’: That was CLEARLY and OBVIOUSLY a dangerous tackle! No idea how that’s not a red.

We’re back for the second half! Can City see it through and grab a much-need three points?

HT: NYCFC leads Miami 2-0 at the half!

Taty Castellanos was the driving force behind City’s first half flurry, scoring two goals — a header and a penalty — and having a clear chance for a third as well. Right now, NYCFC are controlling everything. But we’ve seen this before. Can’t get complacent.

45’: PENALTY!!! Handball in the box!

Taty steps up to take it... BURIES IT!!! PANENKA DOWN THE MIDDLE! 2-0 NYCFC!!!

33’: Not gonna get an easier chance than that. Taty intercepts the ball on the press. He makes a break towards the opposing goal, is 1-v-1, but can’t put the ball in the net.

Missed opportunity that could come back to haunt them.

22’: NYCFC almost concede the equalizer right after. Gonzalo Higuain was through in behind but failed a chipped shot.

21’: GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAALLL!!! Taty nods it in!

A wonderful cross finds Taty in behind. He goes far post with his header and converts it, giving NYCFC a 1-0 lead early!

First 15 minutes in, nothing doing. NYCFC have controlled the game, but have yet to test Miami’s goalkeeper. They need to have a better final product.

We’re off in... New Jersey. City needs this one.

Rosters are out! City continues their progressive squad rotation. Alex Callens and Gudi Thorarinsson both get rests as James Sands and Malte Amundsen both get their time to shine.

The story: It’s been a rough August for New York City FC. With their last two MLS matches both ending in draws to inferior teams — including a midweek cluster against Pumas UNAM — the Boys in Blue travel to their makeshift home of Red Bull Arena to “host” Inter Miami.

Despite having only 16 points on the season through as many games — finding them 12th in the East — Miami has had a sort of resurgence recently, going unbeaten in their last four games which include wins over Nashville SC and CF Montreal. Even if their place in the standings isn’t indicative of a team that are playoff contenders, Inter Miami is a team in good form.

Despite their spotty run of results as of late, NYCFC are still in great position. Currently, they’re on 28 points through 17 games, two points off of Orlando City in 2nd and with a game in hand. A win tonight would allow City to overtake the Lions.

It’s easy to say NYCFC are the favorites tonight. But that can be said for their last three games in all competitions as well. And in each of those, the Blues failed to win. So, ya know, fingers crossed.

This post will update with highlights and information as we receive it.
