82’: Santi Rodriguez and Malte Amundsen come on for Taty and Gudi.
73' And Parks is sent off. #NYCFC is now down to 10 men. Not good.— Hudson River Blue (@hudsonriverblue) August 5, 2021
67’: Cacha Acevedo and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi come on for Thiago and Jesus Medina.
47’: Taty forces a shot. It was a good effort to force a turnover in a dangerous spot. But into of laying it off for Maxi, Taty elects to shoot a harmless effort.
The second half is underway. NYCFC needs to find some life in this one. Anything less than a win is a failure.
36’: As of right now, nothing’s going on. Chicago has only had to deal with one shot on goal. City haven’t been faced with one.
14’: Wasted chance! Taty’s flick-on is brilliant to find Maxi in stride, but the diminutive playmaker doesn’t pull the trigger.
10’: Game is really end-to-end to start. While that doesn’t necessarily play to NYCFC’s disadvantage, I highly doubt that’s what Ronny wants.
We’re off in Chicago! Can NYCFC win their fourth straight?
Rosters are out! As expected, Sean Johnson returns to his rightful place in between the pipe. James Sands is left off the teamsheet due to match congestion. The only surprise is Alfredo Morales over Cacha Acevedo, but with the latter facing yellow card accumulation as well as coming off early last game, I guess it isn’t all that surprising.

The story: Coming off of their third straight win — a blowout 4-1 victory over the Columbus Crew — New York City FC travels to Chi-Town to take on the struggling Chicago Fire at Solider Field in a midweek contest.
After performing valiantly with a less-than-100% squad for the month of July, NYCFC comes into their first August matchup at near full strength due to the returns of both defensive genius James Sands and netminder Sean Johnson after their month-long attachment to the USMNT for the Gold Cup (which they won). While City fans shouldn’t expect Sands to line up tonight due to his Gold Cup workload, Johnson is all but certain to be handed the mitts in tonight’s matchup.
While you could argue that this has all the makings of a tap game for the Boys in Blue, the Chicago Fire have been pretty awful all season. Too much confidence can kill you, but I don’t think anyone — Fire fans included — is expecting Chicago to offer a red-hot NYCFC side much resistance. But weirder things have happened and the Blues need to be prepared for possibility.
