Halftime Notes: Toronto vs. NYCFC

The biggest takeaways from the first half of action!

MLS: New York City FC at Chicago Fire Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

New York City FC currently lead Toronto 2-0 after the first 45 minutes! Here are our biggest takeaways from the first frame.

  • Santi Goals Are Coming to Town!: Let’s be frank — this kid is the truth! The combo of him, Taty Castellanos, Thiago, and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi in this attack has been straight lethal and I’m loving every second of it.
  • Enter Sandsman: In his first game back since his stint with the USMNT in he Gold Cup, Sands has been quietly brilliant, snuffing out attacks, spraying out progressive passes, and linking up well with fellow holder Alfredo Morales. Even if he isn’t stuffing the defensive statsheet, he’s been extremely effective. But what else do you expect at this point?
  • ITS > Medina: I know Jesus Medina has had a strong season in 2021 all things considered. But despite the goals, what does he bring to the XI that Tajouri-Shradi doesn’t? My opinion is nothing. The Libyan should be starting every game he can.
