Nicholas Benalcazar signed to Homegrown contract, confirmed January 19, 2022

Defender Nicholas “Nico” Benalcazar started playing with the NYCFC Academy in 2015. The 20-year-old started in 96 games, and was named the 2018 Academy Player of the Year. He is expected to play with NYCFC II in MLS Next Pro competition in 2022.

Jonathan Jimenez signed to Homegrown contract, confirmed January 19, 2022

Forward Jonathan ‘JJ’ Jimenez played 18 games for the University of North Carolina in 2021. The 20-year-old first played for the NYCFC Academy in 2017. He is expected to play with NYCFC II in MLS Next Pro competition in 2022.

Samuel Owusu signed to Homegrown contract, confirmed January 19, 2022

Defender Samuel ‘Kwaku’ Owusu was a member of the U-18/19 Development Academy Championship teams. The 21-year-old is 6’ 2”, and is expected to play with NYCFC II in MLS Next Pro competition in 2022.

Maxi Moralez re-signed, confirmed January 1, 2022

Argentine playmaker Maxi Moralez and NYCFC agreed to a contract extension for 2022 with an option for 2023. The 34-year-old Moralez will no longer be a Designated Player; NYCFC now has two free Designated Player spots going into the 2022 season. Read all the details here.

Taty Castellanos to Taty Castellanos to Newcastle, West Ham, Juventus, Everton, River Plate, rumor

Newcastle United is going after Taty Castellanos, according to Tribal Football. The Magpies are vying with West Ham United according to Football Fancast— in December, the Golden Boot winner was linked to the Hammers but no deal was made. Yardbreaker reports that Juventus are interested in signing as an understudy for Álvaro Morata, who in turn wants to go to Barcelona FC. Earlier, TUDN reported that River Plate reached out to Castellanos. Last week, English tabloid the Sun reported that Everton manager Rafa Benetiz is considering bringing the striker to the Premier League. ESPN.com reported that Brazil’s Palmeiras made a $12.5 million offer for Castellanos.

Will Sands to Columbus Crew, confirmed January 21, 2022

Defender Will Sands was traded to Columbus Crew for $50,000 in General Allocation Money, according to NYCFC. Sands is the brother of James Sands, who was loaned to Rangers FC in the the Scottish Premier League on January 5, 2022. (See below.)

Jesús Medina to CSKA Moscow, confirmed January 17, 2022

Jesús Medina signed a 3.5-year contract with CSKA Moscow in the Russian Premier League. NYCFC declined an option to re-sign Medina in December. Read all the details here.

James Sands to Rangers FC, confirmed January 5, 2022

James Sands is joining Glasgow’s Rangers on an 18-month loan through June 2023 with an option to buy. The 21-year-old homegrown and USMNT international is a native of Rye, NY, and played with NYCFC affiliate New York Soccer Club since the age of 10. Read all the details here.

Ismael Tajouri-Shradi to Los Angeles Football Club, confirmed December 14, 2021

Attacking midfielder Ismael Tajouri-Shradi was selected by Charlotte Football Club in the 2021 MLS Expansion draft, then traded to LAFC for $400,000 in General Allocation Money. Read all the details here.
