NYCFC signed 20-year-old forward Gabriel Pereira from Corinthians. The left-footed attacker plays on the right. Earlier, Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported that City Football Group made an offer to buy the forward. Highly respected sports journalist Marcelo Braga posted on Twitter that “Corinthians received a proposal and should close the deal to sell Gabriel Pereira to Grupo City.”

The news was amplified by the Twitter account nycfc.source. Transfermarkt values the the left-footed forward who plays on the right at $2.2 million. Pereira made his debut for the Corinthians Senior Team in 2020.
Since NYCFC lost Jesús Medina and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, the club hasn't fielded an attacker on the right—goal-scorers Taty Castellanos, Talles Magno, Héber, and Thiago all prefer to roam on the left. The imbalance up top was glaring on Sunday when City managed only one shot on goal in a 1-0 loss to LA Galaxy, the worst offensive showing for the club since September 11, 2019.
Kevin O’Toole signed to 2022 season

Forward Kevin O’Toole, a 23-year-old graduate of Princeton University, was signed for the 2022 MLS season with options for 2023 and 2024. The attacker, who was twice named All-Ivy Offensive Player of the Year, was selected in the MLS SuperDraft on January 11.
Thiago Martins signed from Yokohama F. Marinos

Brazilian center-back Thiago Martins was signed as a Designated Player from J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos. Both Yokohama and NYCFC are owned by the City Football Group. The 26-year-old came up through the Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras youth system, and Transfermarkt currently values the 6’ 1” defender at $1.32 million. Read all the details here.
Nicholas Benalcazar signed to Homegrown contract

Defender Nicholas “Nico” Benalcazar started playing with the NYCFC Academy in 2015. The 20-year-old started in 96 games, and was named the 2018 Academy Player of the Year. He is expected to play with NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro.
Jonathan Jimenez signed to Homegrown contract

Forward Jonathan ‘JJ’ Jimenez played 18 games for the University of North Carolina in 2021. The 20-year-old first played for the NYCFC Academy in 2017. He is expected to play with NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro.
Samuel Owusu signed to Homegrown contract

Defender Samuel ‘Kwaku’ Owusu was a member of the U-18/19 Development Academy Championship teams. The 21-year-old is 6’ 2”, and is expected to play with NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro.
Kingsford Adjei selected in 2022 SuperDraft

Forward Kingsford Adjei is a senior at the University of Dayton. He is expected to play with NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro.
El Mahdi Youssoufi selected in 2022 SuperDraft

Forward El Mahdi Youssoufi, a senior at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, scored 13 goals in 16 league games. He is expected to play with NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro.
Maxi Moralez re-signed

Argentine playmaker Maxi Moralez and NYCFC agreed to a contract extension for 2022 with an option for 2023. The 34-year-old Moralez will no longer be a Designated Player; NYCFC now has two free Designated Player spots going into the 2022 season. Read all the details here.

Taty Castellanos to Leeds United
Rumor
Taty Castellanos is being linked to a Leeds United move over the summer, which reportedly is willing to meet NYCFC’s asking price for the striker. Read all the details here.
Earlier, TUDN reported that River Plate reached out to Castellanos, and ESPN.com reported that Brazil’s Palmeiras made a $12.5 million offer for Castellanos. European clubs were reportedly interested in Castellanos, including Newcastle United (via Tribal Football) West Ham United (via Football Fancast), Everton (via the Sun), and Juventus (via Yardbreaker), but none made a move before the transfer window closed on January 31.
