While the New York City FC first team is spending this preseason in sunnier climes, Hudson River Blue is hunkered down in chilly New York City and ramping up for the start of the 2022 season. We aim to increase our reporting on NYCFC this year: Not only do we want to publish more stories on NYCFC, we want to expand our coverage to include the regional clubs and leagues that make the New York soccer scene so dynamic and important.

To do that, we need more writers, statisticians, and analysts. In other words, we need you.

We should acknowledge right up front that this is strictly a volunteer opportunity: Hudson River Blue doesn't have a staffing or acquisitions budget. To put it bluntly, we don't pay. You don’t write for Hudson River Blue and SB Nation for the money, you write for the camaraderie and the glory.

That said, there is much to the camaraderie and glory. The readership of Hudson River Blue numbers in the tens of thousands, a devoted group that includes diehard soccerheads and casual fans. The major news outlets pay close attention to what we publish, as does the NYCFC front office. We have an international audience, a global reach. What you write for us will be widely read.

More than that, we want our writers to reflect the incredible diversity of NYCFC fans. We welcome applicants of all genders, ethnicities, and ages. Hudson River Blue is a big tent organization, and we want to give underrepresented voices a platform.

Looking ahead to the rest of 2022, we want to deepen our coverage of NYCFC as the club sets out to defend the MLS Cup. We will continue to provide the best source for news, rumors, trades, and game coverage. We also want to include more statistics and analysis. If any of that interests you, please let us know in your application.

In addition, we want to broaden our reach to include regional soccer at all levels. That includes:

New York City FC II and MLS Next Pro

NYCFC Academy

NYCFC Youth Affiliates

Gotham FC and the NWSL

Lower league teams including NAFCNY, Queensboro FC, and NY Cosmos

USMNT, USWNT

There’s a lot of soccer to cover in New York, and a lot of soccer fans who want to read about it. We would be thrilled if you joined our growing team.
