Inter Miami get a last-minute comeback win, Austin salvages a draw, Red Bulls fall to LAFC

Sticky season is here: MLS is sprinting headfirst into summer, that time of year when those day games in Miami, Orlando, Dallas, Houston, and really any city except for Portland and Seattle make the players wilt — and make arenas without shade seem unnecessarily cruel.

Top Games

LAFC 2 - 0 New Jersey Red Bulls
This game was entertaining, scrappy, and boring all at the same time. LAFC showed why they’re favorites to win the Supporters’ Shield and the MLS Cup, and this is before mid-season mega-signings Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale have even suited up for the club. The New Jersey that pressed NYCFC in the US Open Cup on Wednesday were nowhere to be seen: This Red Bulls squad never found their ruth at Bank of California Stadium. A 67’ goal by LAFC’s Cristian Arango was deserved, and a second goal from Diego Palacios three minutes later put the game away.

Austin FC 2 - 2 FC Dallas
This game ended in a draw, but was still one of the most exciting games of the weekend. After the first half ended 0-0, Dallas scored two goals exactly ten minutes apart in the second half. First Paul Arriola scored in the 58th minute, then Brandon Servania scored in the 68th minute. Sebastian Driussi scored to cut the Dallas lead n the 72nd minute, then Austin’s Danny Hoesen scored in the 85th minute to complete the comeback. As the announcers in FIFA 21 used to say, “This is why we adore this game, late drama.”

Inter Miami 2 - 1 Minnesota United
When you see the score one on this, you think of your normal 2-1 football game — but that’s not how this one went. Inter Miami won it in the most dramatic of ways. The first half ended 0-0, with Miami getting most of the chances. Scoring opened in the 65th minute when Luis Amarillo found the back of the net for Minnesota United. As the game went on it looked like a certain win for Minnesota, but in the 87th minute, Indiana Vassilev scored for Miami, then he did it again in the 90th minute to win it.

Goal of the Week

You gotta love a team goal, and this one from Seattle Sounders has it all: Movement, crisp passing, a clinical finish from Cristian Roldan. The Salt Lake City defense didn’t know what hit them.
