New York City vs Charlotte player ratings

More of the same for New York City FC on the road, as your player ratings weren't fond of the loss in Charlotte with the team's highest-rated player only pulling in a 5.8 rating.

New York City FC player ratings are determined by you the Hudson River Blue readers: Here are the NYCFC player ratings from the team's latest goalless road loss, a 2-0 defeat in Charlotte on Matchday 21.

The bogey team got New York City FC again, and the road struggles manifested again in a 2-0 loss to Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium.

The good feelings and the positive player ratings handed out for the 3-1 win over Toronto FC would not be replicated. The storm-delayed defeat in North Carolina felt like a movie you'd seen before, maybe multiple times before if you've been watching New York City play on the road with any regularity in recent seasons. Or if you've watched them play against Charlotte FC, a team they've only defeated once since the expansion side's MLS debut in 2022.

Dating back to the start of the 2021 MLS regular season, New York City is a combined 16W-25D-37L in MLS regular season away matches, collecting 0.94 points per match. In none of those five seasons has the team possessed a positive road goal differential, and in all four seasons between 2021-2024, NYCFC lost exactly eight regular season road matches.

Pascal Jansen's team is already up to five away defeats (1W-4D-5L) and they've got seven more road trips to make before the 2025 season's end, so far picking up only 0.70 points per match through their first 10 road games with a -6 goal differential.

The Charlotte performance was more of the usual for NYCFC when playing away from home, and the ratings the HRB readers handed down reflect a growing disenchantment with how the team performs on the road. No player in the Starting XI rated at or above 6.0, with the team's highest-rated player, who also happens to have won your vote for Player of the Match, only coming in at a 5.8 for the 2-0 loss.

There weren't many highlights from this game, but we'll still spotlight another strong showing defensively from the team's advanced defender-slash-midfielder, and another Player of the Match turn for the team's leading goalscorer.
