Cosmos launch 2026 away kit

The midnight-blue shirt was introduced via community photo shoots at a bodega and a brew pub in North Jersey, close to the new home of the Cosmos at historic Hinchcliffe Stadium in Patterson.

The Cosmos officially have their second kit: The team's USL League One debut season will see the historic club add a deep navy-blue shirt to the classic green primary kit launched in December. The secondary jersey could be seen at home or on the road, according to a statement released by the team.

The deep navy-blue shirt is "built to be worn anywhere — at home, on the road, and everywhere in between," according to the Club. "The secondary kit reflects the idea that the Cosmos carry their identity with them, no matter the setting. From North Jersey to every city the club enters, the jersey symbolizes pride, belonging, and the shared culture that connects players and supporters."

The kit is available now on the Cosmos shop in limited quantities, and costs $95 USD for an adult. At this time, there are no youth options available.

The official release of the secondary kit follows Hudson River Blue's report from January 25 that featured a leaked image of the deep navy blue shirt. A yellow kit was also included in that leaked photo, but it still remains unconfirmed.

Rooted in history

The secondary kit features a deep navy-blue base, with subtle monochromatic pinstripes, giving the appearance of bars running down the entire chest. Running down one side are three vertical ribbons in green, yellow, and light blue, forming a vertical speed stripe under the team's crest.

The colors are a direct reference to the heritage of the colors of the Cosmos, something the team has previously incorporated into their kits.

The club's 2017 home kit featured these three colors on the sleeve cuffs, while the 2018 kit and 2019 kit saw the trio used on different letters spelling out "NYC." In the 1970s, General Manager Clive Toye chose the green and yellow of the Brazilian national team as part of his strategy to lure Pelé to the United States.

The appearance of white squares on each shoulder, the signature design feature of Capelli jerseys, is also a distinct feature of the kit. The insignia match the white squares found on the green primary kit.

The team say the design represents "home" wherever the club play, and the community that defines them. It nails that aesthetic: Compared to the primary kit, the secondary one has a lot more personality. It's flashier, and it has a story to tell. The team website lists it as the away kit, which means it likely won't be seen at games in Hinchcliffe Stadium this year.

Which is a huge shame.

Community launch

Unlike the team's primary kit launch back in December, the secondary kit seems to have a more grassroots debut. While the first jersey was launched at an event in Times Square, featuring team legends and staff, the new one was primarily launched with help from supporters.

The secondary kit was introduced via photos taken in North Jersey, with locations such as the New Jersey Transit train station in Patterson, and Varitage Brew Works in Bloomfield.

According to the press release, the goal of the photoshoot was to place the jersey in the neighborhoods and spaces that inspire the club. It also aims to reinforce the Cosmos’ commitment to honoring the people and places that shape the club’s identity.

For a team that is jumping back across the Hudson River to New Jersey, splitting the kit launches between New York City and North Jersey makes a lot of sense. The team are already deepening their community efforts, announcing a multitude of partnerships with youth soccer organizations and a youth soccer clinic. It's a positive step for the team to garner local support before they return to play when they host Portland Hearts of Pine at Hinchcliffe Stadium on Saturday, March 14.
