Donald Trump keeps FIFA Club World Cup trophy for himself

The trophy that Chelsea FC lifted after winning the title? It's a copy. President Donald Trump has the original FIFA Club World Cup trophy that was put on display at the White House.

No, the headline above isn't an homage to The Onion. It's the honest truth, at least according to President Donald Trump.

Not only did he crash Chelsea FC's trophy lift after the team won the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, remaining on the stage with the athletes as if he was a part of the 3-0 dismantling of Paris Saint-Germain. The President of the United States had the first edition of the trophy back at the White House all along: It turns out that the celebration was staged with a second trophy after Trump decided to keep the original for himself.

That's according to what he told tournament broadcaster DAZN in a mid-game interview. The FIFA Club World Cup trophy, a gold gyroscope-like object designed by Tiffany & Co, was presented to the President by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in a ceremony at the Oval Office, where Trump says it will remain.

"They said, 'Could you hold this trophy for a little while? We put it in the Oval Office,'" Trump told DAZN. "And then I said, 'When are you going to pick up the trophy?' He says, 'We’re never gonna pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We’re making a new one.' And they actually made a new one. So, that was quite exciting. But it is – right now it’s in the Oval."

President Trump is known for his fondness for shiny gold objects, as a redecorated Oval Office now features a number of trophy-like items displayed on the mantlepiece.

The trophy notoriously includes two engraved mentions of Infantino. It features his name and signature. It also contains a passage that reads, “We are witness to a new age. The golden era of club football: the era of the FIFA Club World Cup. The pinnacle of all club competitions. Inspired by the FIFA president Gianni Infantino.”

One can only hope that the President will appreciate the wisdom that is to be found in those words.

You will find President Trump's interview with DAZN below in a clip provided by FIFA. His statements about the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup remaining at the White House begins 20 seconds into the segment.
