It's Matchday 24, and New York City FC are in Frisco, Texas, to take on FC Dallas at a Toyota Stadium that's currently a construction site. The venue remains open while undergoing a $182 million upgrade that will be completed in 2028 — for now, the seating capacity is capped at just 11,500.

This game is a significant marker in the NYCFC season: It's not just the final contest in the sixth four-game roadtrip in club history, it's the last match before Major League Soccer breaks for two weeks of Phase One of the Leagues Cup. (Don't call it a Group Stage.) In other words, this is the last chance for a result before New York City takes a pause then starts a 10-game push that will close out the season.
New York City go into tonight disappointed after Saturday's game finished in a 1-1 draw at Sporting Kansas City. NYCFC were the better team and took the lead in the first half, but they let the hosts steal a point at home. Still, New York City has four points after three consecutive road games, two of which were played on short rest. Pas mal, as they say in France.
NYCFC has allowed just 26 goals in 23 games, which is joint-fourth-best in the league behind only Philadelphia Union (23 goals in 24 games), Austin FC (24 in 22 games), Nashville SC (25 in 24 games), and even with Vancouver Whitecaps (26 in 23 games). But news broke yesterday that the team will be without Thiago Martins for up to six weeks as he recovers from knee surgery.
On the other side, the 41 goals allowed by Dallas are the seventh-most in the league. That goes a long way to explain why Dallas has the second-worst home record in the league, 2W-2D-7L, with just 12 goals scored and 18 allowed. By comparison, NYCFC have given up just 10 goals at home.
As for the worst home record in MLS? That belongs to CF Montréal, who have just one win at Stade Saputo, when they beat New York City 1-0 on June 28.

The historic head-to-head between the clubs favors NYCFC, who have a record of 3W-4D-1L in eight matches played. The lone Dallas win came way back in 2015, the year New York City started playing in the league.
NYCFC are undefeated since then. The club even managed to come out ahead in their most recent matchup, winning 3-1 on April 22, 2023. It was one of the biggest wins in an otherwise forgettable season. "Let’s be honest, the 3-1 scoreline was ultimately flattering to Dallas. [Santi] Rodríguez, Talles Magno, and [Gabriel] Pereira could have scored more than those three goals," Derian Trahan wrote in his Instant Reaction that night. "This was the first game this season when it felt like everything was clicking for NYCFC."
