Episode 7: The alternate-universe MVP

The third of New York City FC's three straight wins featured a star turn from Santiago Rodríguez, which had our HRB Podcast hosts wondering: Should the NYCFC No 10 be in the MVP conversation?

The vibes on the Hudson River Blue Podcast remain good as New York City FC is on a streak of three straight wins, with only Decision Day now between them and the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Episode 7 of the pod begins with a discussion of the team's workmanlike 3-1 win over Nashville SC, which featured a star turn from Santiago Rodríguez. Santi's two goals had hosts John Baney and Mark Radigan wondering: If there was an alternate MLS season playing out in some alternate reality, one without Lionel Messi or Cucho Hernández, would the NYCFC No 10 be in the MVP conversation?

From there, talk shifts to all the scenarios at play on the final day of the MLS regular season for NYCFC. That means talk of what it will take to grab Fourth Place, plus the potential playoff match-ups that could await once the playoffs begin.

Episode 7 wraps up with a spotlight on 17-year-old NYCFC defender Christian McFarlane, and on a busy international break for NYCFC players. McFarlane just earned a spot on the MLS 22 Under 22 list, which leads to some discussion of just how good NYCFC has been at finding and developing talent at the fullback position. This episode concludes with a rundown of all seven of the NYCFC players traveling to play for their national teams during this October international break, a busy one for members of the Boys in Blue.
