New York City FC player ratings are determined by Hudson River Blue readers: Here are your NYCFC player ratings after a thrilling 1-0 win over FC Cincinnati played on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Queens.
Another matchday, another 1-0 win: The player ratings are strong after New York City took down the hottest team in MLS, snapping Cincinnati's five-game winning streak by holding them scoreless at Citi Field. The Starting XI is all 6s and 7s – plus an 8.1 for Matt Freese, who's also your Player of the Match. A total of five players received their highest ratings of the season so far, including starters Julián Fernández, Andrés Perea, and Thiago Martins, as well as substitutes Nico Cavallo and Birk Risa.

But those numbers might actually be a little harsh. The interns at FotMob gave Fernández a game-high 8.8 while you handed him a 7.9, and teenage heartthrob Jonny Shore's 8.1 from FotMob is a full 1.4 points higher than the 6.7 you gave him. We'll say it again: You're a tough audience.
But you showed the love to Pascal Jansen. NYCFC's new head coach won the tactics battle with Cincinnati's Pat Noonan, who won the 2023 Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year. Jansen's surprising starting lineup took the game to FCC in the first half, then his defensive substitutes shut them down. His 8.0 bests the 7.5s Jansen received for the 2-1 wins over Orlando City and New England Revolution back in March.
