NYCFC to build stadium in South Bronx?

The NY Post thinks a deal is close.

Maybe:

After looking at sites in Queens and Brooklyn, a Major League Soccer franchise on Tuesday stood close to a deal to build a 28,000-seat stadium in The Bronx just south of Yankee Stadium, the Post has learned.

Maybe not:

Mayor Bloomberg has blessed the pact.

However, the team will not move forward without mayor-elect Bill de Blasio’s blessing, and he has not yet reviewed the deal, sources said.

Bloomberg is the lamest of lame ducks. He’s literally out of office in about three weeks. While incoming Mayor Bill de Blasio did support the building of the Barclays Center arena in the end, I don’t think it’s wise to extrapolate that this means that NYCFC will have the green light to build a stadium in that specific location.

There’s a lot of time, and a lot of things that can go awry.

David Lee did some of the best business in his NYCFC career just before leaving, bringing in Nico Fernández Mercau and Aiden O'Neill, and signing Matt Freese to an extension. But he let Justin Haak slip away, and Jovan Mijatović and Talles Magno are still on the club's books.
