US Women’s National Team head coach Emma Hayes named the 24-player roster for the upcoming friendlies against China and Jamaica, and Gotham FC defender Emily Sonnett made the cut.
Sonnet, who joined Gotham at the start of the 2023 season, has 107 caps for the USWNT after making her international debut in 2015.
She is the only Gotham player Hayes named to this roster. Other USWNT regulars on the squad, such as defender Tierna Davidson and midfielder Rose Lavelle, are sidelined with injuries. Midfielder Midge Purce, who just returned to the Gotham starting lineup after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered last season, also didn't receive a call-up.
Two former Gotham players are on the roster. Goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn, now with Utah Royals, and Crystal Dunn, now with Paris Saint-Germain, both made the team.
The USWNT will host China at Allianz Field in St Paul, MN, on Saturday, May 31, at 5:30 pm ET. The game will be broadcast on TBS, HBO Max, Universo, and Peacock. They will then host Jamaica at Energizer Park in St Louis on Tuesday, June 3, at 8 pm ET. The game will be broadcast on TNT, HBO Max, Universo, and Peacock.
