Jaedyn Shaw to Gotham FC in record-setting trade: Report

North Carolina Courage traded the 20-year-old United States women's national team star to Gotham for $1.25 million, the most expensive intra-NWSL move to date.

Gotham FC made a big splash and picked up Jaedyn Shaw from North Carolina Courage, according to a report from ESPN's Jeff Kassouf.

Shaw, 20, moves to Gotham for a record-breaking $1.25 million in intra-league transfer funds, shattering the previous high of $600,000 that Kansas City Current paid to Utah Royals for forward Ally Sentnor just last month.

Gotham have yet to make an official announcement regarding the trade. ESPN reports that Shaw's contract with Gotham will run through the 2029 season.

Shaw is one of the brightest young stars on the United States national women's team. The attacking midfielder has 26 caps and eight goals with the USWNT, and was a member of the squad that won Gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

In the trade for Shaw, Gotham general manager Yael Averbuch West acquires a creative midfielder who will look to have an immediate impact at Gotham. The Bats have a respectable 27 points after 19 matches, but that's well behind the 49 points of league-leaders Kansas City, who could break the NWSL record of 60 points set last year by Orlando Pride.

Gotham's attack needs help despite a strong year from striker Esther González, who is the joint-leader in the Golden Boot race with 12 goals. Despite her productivity the Bats have been held scoreless seven times this season, dropping 18 points in those matches out of a possible 21. Shaw will already be familiar with Gotham's Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnet, and Sarah Schupansky from their time together with the USWNT.

Gotham will be Shaw's third team since 2024. The 20-year-old spent almost three seasons with San Diego Wave before requesting a trade in January. She went on to appear 19 times for North Carolina, making 10 starts, scoring three goals, and adding one assist.
