Dear Reader,
We have exciting news to share with you: Hudson River Blue is now working with Sofascore, the sports data website and app powered by Opta. This collaboration will allow us to use Sofascore's in-depth statistical analysis, and will enable us to present that information through custom graphics created for HRB by the Sofascore visualization team.
In other words, the stats and analysis at HRB are about to get much, much better.
The partnership comes at a key moment. Two weeks ago, news broke that FBRef's encyclopedic database was scrubbed of much of its advanced metrics after the stats it previously licensed were revoked. (It's complicated.) That comes on the heels of Major League Soccer's decision to quietly delete some detailed matchday and player stats from previous years, a disturbing trend that prompted us to launch the HRB Database last year.
Not only will the partnership with Sofascore allow us to improve our stats by giving you accurate and insightful data analysis, it will provide HRB with yet another way to better serve our community of members and subscribers.
The collaboration with Sofascore is already underway — eagle-eyed readers might have noticed that Mark Radigan's scouting report on Kai Trewin featured our debut Sofascore graphic. (You can find it below.) It's onlythe first pancake off the griddle — we're certain that our data visualization will become more sophisticated and specific as we get to know our partners at Sofascore, and as they get to know us and our audience.
Thank you for reading HRB, and for supporting independent sports journalism.
Sincerely,
Oliver Strand
