Danish midfielder Josefine Hasbo joins Gotham FC on a multi-year contract to the end of the 2027 season.

The 23-year-old joins the club upon her graduation from Harvard University, the second alumna to sign with the squad after Midge Purce.

“I’m proud and excited to sign my first professional contract with Gotham FC,” Hasbo said in a press release. “I’m inspired by the club’s brave football identity, its loyal fan base and the talented players and staff from around the world. I look forward to learning and contributing in a city full of energy and opportunity.”

Hasbo began her professional career in Denmark at Brøndby IF, one of the best women's teams playing in Denmark's top league, the Danmarksturneringen Kvindeliga. She played during the club's UEFA Champions League Round of 16 run in 2021, appearing in both games against OL Lyonnes. Brøndby ultimately fell 1-5 on aggregate.

Hasbo earned All-Ivy honors during her four-year career at Harvard, and was named first team All-Ivy League twice. While at Harvard, Hasbo ranked ninth in the program's history for career goals at 25, and career points at 67.

In 2023, Hasbo became a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, won the Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and earned honors from United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America. After leading Harvard to their fourth Ivy League women's soccer tournament title that year, she was named team captain in 2024.

She finished her university career with 51 games started and more than 55 games played, helping Harvard to three NCAA tournament appearances and a 44-13-11 team record during her four years on the team.

The Dane is the first Harvard women's player to play in the World Cup, where she helped her country to a round of 16 spot in 2023. Hasbo's national debut came against Sweden in the Algarve Cup in March 2020, and she recorded her first senior international goal during Women’s World Cup qualifying on September 1, 2022, contributing to Denmark's 5-1 victory over Montenegro.

Hasbo had made 33 national appearances, with 20 wins and three goals for Denmark. She captained her country's U-17 and U-19 women's teams prior to her senior international debut.

“Josefine is a talented player with significant international experience,” said Gotham general manager and head of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West. “We’re excited to welcome her to the club and look forward to the impact she will make.”
