With Wednesday in the rearview mirror, New York City FC is back in the Bronx to host CF Montréal in Matchday 12 of the Major League Soccer season: Here is your Game Day Hub.
NYCFC will be happy to be hosting this game. The team won four out of the five games played at home this season, good for fourth-best in the league — only Vancouver Whitecaps (5W-0D-1L), Charlotte FC (5W-0D-1L), and FC Cincinnati (4W-1D-0L) have done better.
On the other end of the field, Montréal isn't just winless on the road this season, they have yet to log a single win. Their overall record of 0W-3D-8L puts them in 29th Place in the Supporters' Shield race, ahead only of the hapless LA Galaxy. Should they lose this game, Montréal will set a new club record for the worst start to a season.
But this game is no slam dunk for the hosts. New York City has yet to win a game by more than one goal, while six of Montréal's losses have been by one goal: The margins are thin. True, Montréal's five goals scored is the fewest in the league, but their 16 goals allowed puts them mid-table.
This is a game that could be decided by the defense. Montréal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois has 37 saves so far this year — that's just one behind New York City goalkeeper Matt Freese, who has 38.

New York City dominates Montréal like no other team: The head-to-head features the most wins (13) and greatest goal differential (21) that NYCFC has against any club on the planet.
New York City is well ahead in recent matchups, logging four wins in the last five played, with three clean sheets. That said, Montréal convincingly won the last matchup between the two teams. That came on Decision Day last season when Montréal dominated the first half and cruised to a 2-0 win at Stade Saputo.
It was New York City's first loss to Montréal since 2021, just their third loss in ten years, and their first-ever loss while playing in Montréal.

New York City Scouting Report
• Player Availability: Malachi Jones (leg) is still recovering from his long-term leg injury. In addition, Keaton Parks (foot), Kevin O'Toole (leg), and Birk Risa (leg) are unavailable.
• Jacob Arroyave is off the injured list for the first time this season, but we won't see him at Yankee Stadium. The 17-year-old midfielder started in NYCFC II's 5-2 win over RBNY II last night. It was his first appearance since June 12, 2024, when NYCFC II beat Toronto FC II 3-0.
• Does this mean Mitja Ilenič is off the injured list? He wasn't named by Jansen as unavailable in yesterday's press conference, though Tayvon Gray's strong play in Ilenič's absence might complicate Jansen's lineup decision at right-back.
• Keaton's move to the injured list is troubling but not surprising: The midfielder has been nursing a foot injury picked up in preseason. How will the team adapt without their metronome on the field?
• One answer could be found in Aiden O'Neill. New York City's marquee signing this transfer window started training with the team this week, and the midfielder is thought to be match-fit after leaving Standard de Liège before the end of their season.
• If he plays, this will be Maxi Moralez's 15th time facing off against Montréal in his MLS career, the most appearances made by any player on either side of the fixture. The Argentine playmaker historically torments the Canadian club, collecting five goal contributions (three goals, two assists) in the 14 prior meetings, though Maxi has one goal contribution through 11 games here in 2025, an assist back on Matchday 1 against Miami.
• To get the intel on Montréal, read Matthew Mangam's latest Oppo Research with Elias Grigoriadis of The Ball is Round Montréal. He tells us why the team has so much trouble scoring, but why the return of Giacomo Vrioni could bring an end to their goal drought.
