This just came in over the transom: New York City FC's match against LAFC has been moved from October to May.

NYCFC will now host LAFC on Wednesday, May 6, at Citi Field at 7:30 pm ET. (Originally, the two were set to meet on Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 pm at a venue to be determined.) With that, New York City will play five games inside of fourteen games, with home games against DC United (Sunday, May 4), LAFC (Wednesday, May 6), and Columbus Crew (Sunday, May 10), followed by away games against Charlotte FC (Wednesday, May 13) and Red Bull New York (Saturday, May 16).

No reason for the scheduling change was given in the official announcement issued by the club.

To confuse matters even more, the announcement noted that "this match may be rescheduled if LAFC advance to the semifinals of this year’s Concacaf Champions Cup." Should that happen, the club will make another announcement.

One silver lining: This LAFC match won't take place at Sports Illustrated Stadium, home to the Red Bulls. Until Etihad Park opens in 2027, the locations of New York City's October matches usually remain a mystery until late in the fall, when the postseason schedules of the New York Mets and New York Yankees determine the availability of Citi Field and Yankee Stadium. Last year, NYCFC didn't play any home games in New Jersey for the first time since 2020.

With the LAFC game moved to May, New York City now have two October matches that will be played at venues to be determined: Atlanta United on Wednesday, October 28, and CF Montréal on Saturday, October 31.
